Coping with Flu – Sore Throat

Halls Mentholyptus Extra StrongSore throat is a very common symptom nowadays. It begins as a dry and mild sore throat, which usually one feels only in recurring mornings, and then it either stops or gets worse every morning leading to other worse stages. One cannot really detect if the sore throat is a temporary one or the one that gets worse, that is why one has to treat it at the first sign of sore throat.

At the first sign of sore throat, I usually take Halls Mentholyptus Extra Strong cough drops. When I took these drops form the very first mild sign, the soreness lasted from 1 to 5 days, but when I took these drops a day or more after the very first sign, these drops did not work well alone. There is a limit on how many Halls drops one can take per day.  An adult can take up to 1 packet per day.

To cure a sore throat 100%, there are other treatments that help:

Natural Treatment:

  • take fruit juices and other liquids often
  • reduce dairy foods
  • suck zinc lozenges
  • rest voice
  • stay in a warm atmosphere

Herbal Treatment:
Make tinctures for gargling from, or use cooled infusions of one or more of the following herbs:

  • Agrimony
  • Sage (antiseptic)
  • Thyme (antiseptic)
  • Myrrh
  • Liquorice sticks
  • Marshmallow leaf

Aromatherapy Treatment:

  • steam inhalations of Benzoin, Lavander or Thyme essential oil
  • taking half a teaspoon of honey with 1drop of Lemon essential oil.

Coping with Flu

Santa Claus with a coldFlu doesn’t come all of a sudden, it comes as a sequence. It first comes as what we call sore throat, then blocked nose with coughs, after that comes cold evolving into catarrh which can lead to influenza. Influenza then can lead to more serious complaint as bronchitis which can become worse and might lead to death.

If we do not want the worst to happen we must end the sequence as early as possible. This is done by treating according to the stage we’re in.

In the coming weeks I will be giving natural tips on how to cope with each stage of flu, adding some personal tips on how I managed to stop at a particular stage.

W7 Wand Concealer with Tea Tree Oil

W7 Eand Concealer eith Tea Tree Oil

Before trying this concealer, I have tried other renowned concealers. At first I tried a non soothing one (Rimmel), as I wasn’t sure if a concealer really heals spots and blemishes. This concealer did not really conceal blemishes, as when I applied concealer, I tried to spread it so that it evens out with my skin tone, and it kind of got removed. I had to put on also foundation to maybe hide them, but it did not really work as foundation is not really designed to conceal blemishes.

Then I tried the soothing concealers (The Body Shop, and Seba-med), and again they did not conceal and also didn’t really sooth blemishes!

W7 Wand Concealer with Tea Tree Oil is available in 2 shades (light or medium). It is a liquid concealer with a sponge applicator wand, just like the ones used in lipgloss. It is created to conceal and heal blemishes, and conceal dark under-eye circles.

To heal and sooth spots and blemishes, it contains tea tree oil. Tea tree oil is an anti-bacterial essential oil that is commonly used to heal, sooth and clear acne (spots and blemishes).

Recently, I’ve tried the W7 wand concealer, a brand which I never heard before but it seems that it is renowned and commonly used in the UK, and surprisingly enough, it worked.

Instructions:

  1. Concealer applied on blemishes with wand
  2. Concealer dries on skin (… don’t let it get too dry …)
  3. Spread the dry concealer with finger to even out with skin tone
  4. Bob’s your uncle!

W7 concealer dries blemishes while it conceals them, and they are soothed after the third time the concealer is applied on your skin.

Talking about campaigns, this month the MPSA (Malta Pharmaceutical Students Association) just launched a Women’s Health Awareness Campaign website consisting of various topics about the health of women.

The aim of launching this website now, was to campaign the awareness to University students attending the University of Malta Fresher’s Week.

Currently the website consists of only four topics:

  • Some facts about Breast Cancer
  • The Role of Calcium in Women’s Health
  • Chlamydia – Let’s break the silence!
  • Is-saħħa Sesswali

but by time it will have more topics. So keep tuned to Sahhti.org for updates! :)
